Course Content and Structure:

This two-day, intermediate level workshop provides 15 contact hours. CEU’s will be awarded for Physical Therapists and PTA’s and PDU’s for Occupational Therapists and COTA’s collaboratively through Weeefun and Professional Therapies.

The course focus is on early intervention treatment (0-3 years) in the natural environment with a family centered approach including; home, park and playground settings. This course includes a lecture and lab portion as well as treatment demonstrations of infants and children with developmental and neuromuscular impairments to their gross and fine motor systems.

The lecture/lab segment will cover early motor skills development and focus areas for treatment and handling. Facilitation techniques will include those used for skill development of transitional movements involving the trunk and extremities, along with mobility and control for early transition attainment centered on rolling, crawling, creeping and first steps. The focus of this class will be on handling and treatment, including Neurodevelopmental, Sensory and Motor Learning treatment methods, helping attendees learn practical skills for Early Intervention treatment.

For the lab segments, participants must bring a soft, rag type doll of approximately 24-30” to practice baby facilitation and handling techniques. Attendees should also dress in comfortable clothes that allow for movement to practice transitions and treatment. There will be a treatment demonstration on Friday in a simulated home setting as well as a treatment demonstration Saturday in the park/playground setting located just across from the course venue. This class will include an exclusive and inspiring guest speaker, (A talented young local musician, with Cerebral Palsy), highlighting the positives of his experience with traditional OT/PT therapy in the Natural setting- (Saturday lunch time).
